JEDDAH: A Saudi national went missing after going on a cruise on the Neckar River in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, Arab media reported.

Ahmad Al-Mishael, a scholarship student, told Arab News that  his brother had gone on a cruise on the Neckar River in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg with his German friends during the evening hours when there was thick fog.

He said his brother left his cellphone in his room to charge before leaving for the trip, noting that the last communication their mother received from Murtada was two days before he went missing.

The scholarship student arrived in Germany in 2010 to study dentistry, before changing his specialty to biochemistry.

He has also been working at a company in Germany and is goalkeeper for a German football team.

The Saudi Embassy in Germany announced in a press statement that “at 2 a.m., the embassy received a report from German authorities indicating a Saudi student had gone missing while swimming in the Neckar River with a group of his friends.”

The embassy said a representative was immediately sent to the location to monitor search operations launched by German authorities, who had received a call at 12:49 a.m. about the missing student.

Those close to him had been trying to locate him but to no avail due to poor weather conditions. – Web Desk
