NEW DELHI: India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly whipping up religious tension and anti-Pakistan sentiments to win elections in Bihar, the country's third most populous state and critical to Indian Prime Minister Modi's plans to improve his party's strength in the upper house of parliament.

Indian media reports said BJP chief Amit Shah has said during an election rally that if his party loses in Bihar, crackers will be burst in Pakistan.

The final phase of Assembly elections in Bihar kicked off today, but recorded low turnout in 57 Assembly constituencies spread over nine districts.

Control of Bihar is key to Modi's ambition to secure a majority in Rajya Sabha.- Samaa/Agencies
