India: 60 killed, 100 injured in stampede at Madhya Pradesh temple

Staff ReportNEW DELHI: At least 50 Hindu pilgrims were killed and over 100 injured in a stampede which occurred during a religious festival in Madhya Pradesh state of India, SAMAA reported on Sunday.India media report said that the tragedy was caused by a rumour in a temple where thousands of pilgrims were attending a religious festival in Ratangarh area of Datia district.Reports said most of the people died of stampede while many others died of drowning after jumping off a bridge near the temple.Other reports said that stampede occurred owing to police lathicharge on Hindu devotees.
