After Alia Bhatt, another star of Kalank, Sanjay Dutt, revealed that he signed the film because of its emotional connection with Pakistan.
Sanjay, who plays Balraj in the film whose title means ‘stigma’, has shared how his avatar has an emotional connection to his father and his roots in Pakistan, reported India Today.
“During the shoot of Gumrah, Yash uncle had briefly mentioned the story. Dharma Productions is like family; so when Karan approached me with the film, I had to do it. It is also a coincidence that my character is named Balraj, which is my father’s [Sunil Dutt] real name. He too came from Pakistan during Partition, so it has an emotional connect,” said Sanjay Dutt.
Earlier, Alia Bhatt revealed that she drew inspiration from Sanam Saeed’s character in Zindagi Gulzar Hai when preparing for her latest film Kalank. She said that the film has been set in Lahore’s Heera Mandi.
Kalank, which stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur, is set to hit the screens on April 17. Kalank also marks the reunion of Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt after 22 years. It is set in the 1940s.
