Actress Mehwish Hayat has expressed disappointment over Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s refusal to take on the role of a Pakistani.
Hayat took to Twitter to talk about the power movies have in improving ties between countries.
If true, this is very disappointing. Movies have the power to build bridges especially when tensions are high. I guess that in the end nationalism trumps everything – I hope that we can also take heed before we gush about all things Bollywood in future.https://t.co/XqYQZjN53d

Recently, it was reported that Bachchan turned down the role of a Pakistani protagonist in an upcoming Bollywood movie. The movie is being directed by Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, reported Bollywood Hungama.
The actor is reported to have turned down the role following tensions between India and Pakistan in February 14.
He said he decided to turn down the role because he doesn’t want to embroil himself in any controversies or be labelled as an “anti-nationalist,” reported the Deccan Chronicle.
Pookutty, who will make his directorial debut with the movie, has reportedly been discussing the role with Bachchan for the past two years.
