DUBAI: Hollywood model Gigi Hadid was slammed on Twitter for mistakenly identifying boyfriend Zayn Malik’s Pakistani heritage as Middle Eastern.
In an interview with Gulf News, the half-Palestinian beauty described Zayn Malik as part Middle Eastern when she talked about visiting Arab countries and feeling a connection to the culture as her father Mohamed Hadid is Palestinian.
‘ When someone comes up to me and they tell me, ‘I’m Palestinian’ and we make a connection, it’s beautiful. It’s just a connection that you make that’s really cool,’ she said. ‘It’s hard to explain, but you feel like you’re amongst [your] people.’
She made the error that won her the ire of the internet, when she said about Zain, “My boyfriend is also half-Middle Eastern.”
Noted by Gulf News, the error caused a stir online with people volunteering to provide her with Geography lessons.
Gigi Hadid said Zayn was half Middle Eastern.
