KARACHI: Snubbing the 'prophets of doom' for spreading scare stories about the country's economy, Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar Wednesday inaugurated a Shariah-compliant trading platform at the apex bourse, Samaa reported.

"Those scaremongers, who are seeing the country going bankrupt will die with their speculations," Dar said after ringing  the bell to launch All Shares Islamic Index at the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE).

In the next breath, the finance minister said the government was committed to promote Islamic finance ever since it assumed office and that he was happy with the launch of new Shariah-compliant trading index.

" The  Islamic index will have positive impact on the stock market," Dar said.

He told reporters that 225 companies had been listed in the Islamic Index.

"The introduction of Islamic bonds in the stock market will attract more investment," the minister said further.
