The bridal showcase at Fashion Pakistan Week 2019 was full of comebacks and firsts.
Tena Durrani, Nomi Ansari, Huma Adnan, Amir Adnan, Saira Shakira and The Pink Tree Company displayed their collections on the last day of the exhibition in Karachi on Thursday. The designers experimented with pearls, beads, handmade jewellery, velvet, frills and net. The designs offered a little bit of everything for everyone.
Let’s take a look at some of the trends we can expect to see during the upcoming wedding season:
1) The magic of mirror work
Ace designer Nomi Ansari’s collection was all about mirror work. He experimented with mirror work on lehengas, palazzos, cholis, coats, jackets and waistcoats and they all looked stunning. The designer experimented with a lot of colours but getting mirror work done on the neck of a solid shirt and its sleeves will look great too. Getting it done on a shawl will also oomph up the look of a dress.
2) Pallazos are in, ghararas are out
Designers have finally bid farewell to ghararas, which had become a common feature of weddings recently. There were only one or two ghararas at fashion week this year. Their place seems to have been taken by palazzos. The loose trousers gave the dresses a groovy yet chic vibe. They can be paired with both long and short shirts.
3) Lehengas galore
Lehengas, shararas and ghagra cholis will not go out of fashion any time soon. Many of the showstoppers wore them this year. The designers presented the skirts in different colours and shades with cholis to die for.
4) Bell sleeves
Bell sleeves — plain and flared — can become a great addition to the new trends. They show how using a single element can take a garment up a notch. They are not exactly a new idea, but it was fun to see them re-imagined in different styles and patterns.
5) Pastels are here to stay
The easy breezy vibe of pastels has not lost in charm. Designers presented pastels with silver pearl and bead embroidery.
6) Yellow is the new black?
Yellow seems to be blossoming as the colour of the season. Different shades of the colour — butter, canary, daffodil, pineapple, blonde and honey — have the potential to bring a refreshing change to our wardrobes.
7) Flowers in my hair
Ever since Anushka Sharma wore a fresh flower gajra at her wedding it has become a huge thing. Women often wear them at weddings, but Zainab Chottani’s detailing with flowers in the models’ hair gave the entire collection a subtle elegance.
