A Karachi student has discovered a way to grow cherry tomatoes at home even when they are not in season.
She grew cherry tomatoes at the University of Karachi’s Hussain Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute of Chemistry in just two months through hydroponic gardening.
The hydroponic method doesn’t use any soil to grow plants. They are grown with the help of a concentrated nutrient solution. To grow a plant, you just need to mix fertiliser into the water at certain pH levels and control the temperatures.
Dr Iqbal Chaudhry, who teaches at KU, spoke about the details of the procedure on SAMAA TV’s show Naya Din on Tuesday.
You don’t need a big ground to grow these tomatoes, he said. “Cherry tomatoes grow vertically.” The weather in Karachi is ideal for the growth of tomatoes since we don’t have extreme weather conditions.
The process will help you grow organic tomatoes which are free of pesticides at your own house, he added.
