The hunt for his replacement is on
After years of fan complaints that he was too short for the role, actor Tom Cruise is reportedly out as the character of Jack Reacher.
In Lee Child’s books, Reacher is described as 6ft 5in tall with hands “the size of dinner plates”. However, Cruise, 56, who is just 5ft 7in, has portrayed the 6ft 5in force of nature in two films, Jack Reacher and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
Child broke the news on Wednesday that now that the film is being rebooted as a streaming TV series, his size really is an issue.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio, Child admitted that they are looking for someone much taller for the role. “I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun,” he said
“But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important, and it’s a big component of who he is. The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you’re all a little nervous just for that first minute. And Cruise, for all his talent, didn’t have that physicality,” he added.
The hunt for the replacement is on but no one has been confirmed for the role yet.
