Why the KPT doesn’t want you to visit China Port anymore

By now, everyone in Karachi has heard of China Port in Clifton but if you haven’t already seen it, you’ve lost your chance. The authorities have banned the public from visiting the place.

China Port is a 2.5 kilometre stretch of concrete tetrapods built by the Chinese for the South Asia Pakistan Terminal. A tetrapod is a structure used to prevent coastal erosion and to support breakwaters.

Section 144 of the PPC has been imposed at the breakwater at China Port. This means people are not allowed to visit the port. The KPT has even asked the police to deploy security at the port.

The KPT has a very good reason for doing this — China Port is not a recreational spot. It was built to protect large ships from high tide.

The water is very deep at the port and there are no safety rails. In fact, there’s nothing to prevent people from being swept away by a high wave.

The KPT imposed the ban to protect citizens from themselves and make sure no one gets hurt at the port.

Thousands of people go to the port everyday with their families and friends.
