NEWS DESK: Priya Prakash Varrier became an internet sensation after her expressions caught the attention of everyone. While she has received a lot of praise from various quarters, the song in which she features, ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ from the upcoming movie Oru Adaar Love, has also gotten her into trouble with a certain section of society. A few days ago, a youth had filed a complaint and claimed that the song insulted Prophet Muhammad.

Now, Priya has approached India’s Supreme Court in order to get the FIR quashed, reported Pinkvilla. In her plea, she stated that these complaints have arisen because of misinterpretation of the lyrics and are hence baseless.

“The criminal complaints have been instituted by various fringe groups based on a distorted and incorrect interpretation of the song in the states of Telangana, Maharashtra and similar complaints are likely from other non-Malayalam speaking states as well. The song describes and praises the love between Prophet Muhammad and his first wife Khadeeja. It should be important to note that the song is originally from an old folk song from Kerala which was written in 1978 by PMA Jabbar and first sung by Thalassery Rafeeq, in the praise of the Prophet and his wife Beevi Khadija,” read the plea.

Manikya Malaraya Poovi is a song recreated by ace music director Shaan Rahman and is a soft romantic number. Vineeth Sreenivasan has sung the song. The video revolves around two young lovers and is set in a college/school setting. The lovers can be seen exchanging shy glances at each other in the song.

Helmed by filmmaker Omar Lulu, Oru Adaar Love features newcomers in the lead and will hit screens soon.
