LONDON: US rap star Eminem performed live after a while at the MTV EMA 2017 with Skylar Grey on a memorable night that also saw him take home the Best Hip Hop prize.
It was an emotional moment for the 44-year-old Artist of the Decade who had released the latest single from his new album just two days ago and was performing the song live with Skylar Grey.
Walk On Water deals with Eminem's struggles as an artist staying relevant in the rap game at a time when fans were picking apart every song of his for one reason or the other.
"It's the curse of the standard/That the first of the Mathers discs set/Always in search of the verse that I haven't spit yet/Will this step just be another misstep," he rapped in front of a snowing mountainous background.
Skylar Grey impressively replaced Beyonce who was not present at the award ceremony, to sing her part. To her credit, Grey did a wonderful job belting the emotional chorus to Eminem's sad rap.
Later during the night, Eminem won the award for the Best Hip Hop category, beating out the likes of impressive rappers Future, Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
“I‘m not really sure how I got this, ‘cause I haven’t had an album out in a few years” he quipped in his acceptance speech, adding “I got one coming though."
