MUMBAI: Indian singer Sonu Nigam’s remarks on Azaan have landed him in hot water as a case has been filed for hurting religious sentiments.
According to an entertainment website, the petitioners Hemant Patil and Anwar Shaikh have stated that the singer is paving way to enmity based on religion, race, language and place of birth.
The case has been filed under Section 153A , 295A and 296 of Indian Penal Code.
The petition will be heard on April 28, 2017.
It should be noted that the singer, in a series of tweets, stated his displeasure with the sound of Azaan quite openly, going so far as to terming it as ‘forced religiousness’.
