MUMBAI: Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the new icon of Mumbai’s film industry for his convincing performances in Gangs of Wasseypur, Raees, Haraamkhor, Raman Raghav 2.0, Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

In recent days, Indian vocalist Sonu Nigam kicked up a new controversy against Azan citing his difficult with sleep. A lot of reactions sprouted on social media bashing the singer.

Taking to the social media, the talented actor, Siddiqui, let his craft do the talking, drawing world’s attention towards the secular appeal of India.

Nawaz has decided to make a valid and very articulate point about what being an artiste means. The actor himself was at the receiving end in 2016 when he had to pull out of a Ramleela in his village Budhana after Shiv Sena protested.

In his social media video, Nawaz is seen showing a series of placards. In the short film directed by his brother Shamas Nawab Siddiqui, the Gangs of Wasseypur actor announced through the placards that he got his DNA tested.

The actor introduces himself in the video, “Hi, I am Nawazuddin Siddiqui. I had got my DNA test done and when the report came in, I found that I am…” He goes on to say that his test revealed he was 16.66% Hindu, and 16.66% all the other religions in the world. Finally, he held a placard that read, “When I discovered my soul, I found that I am a 100% artist.”

Hindi film industry is increasingly being targeted in the name of religion. We have seen artistes receiving fatwas, films being banned and censored.

Nawazuddin, who was in his village Budhana last year, had to pull out of a Ramleela program there place after members of Shiv Sena raised objection.

In Rajasthan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was physically attacked and his Padmavati set was destroyed even before he got the chance to execute his idea.

Recently Sonu Nigam has become the target of religious leaders when he tweeted against the use of loudspeakers in places of worship. His Azan row split Bollywood fraternity into two halves, while a few supported the actor’s motive others chose to disagree with him.
