Bangladesh Army has been deployed in Bangladesh to maintain law and order as the opposition boycotted the election making the elections questionable.
Bangladesh has been heading towards the 7th January elections as Awami League (AL) is expected to be elected for the fourth time amid opposition block.
The protestors from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party have demanded the resignation of the elected party. Due to this protest, many politicians have been jailed.
Authorities in Bangladesh on Wednesday deployed Armed forces to assist the administration in holding the January 7 national election in a free, fair, and peaceful manner as tensions spiked in the country ahead of the polls being boycotted by the main opposition party.
To avoid any untoward situation centering on the January 7 general election and holding the polls freely and fairly, the armed forces were deployed across the country on Wednesday morning.
They will be available for special duties relating to the 12th parliamentary election till January 10.
In a media release on Tuesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate said: “Armed forces are to remain deployed from Wednesday to January 10 to ensure peace and order before, during, and after election day.”
They are deployed in a bid to assist the local civil administration in holding a free, fair, and peaceful election as per Section 126 of the constitution's "In Aid to the Civil Power.”
