Earthquake tremors shook parts of Pakistan on Monday, including Islamabad and multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities say the quake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Earthquake shocks were felt in the federal capital Islamabad as well as several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Residents reported shaking in Malakand, Mardan, Khyber, Jamrud, Swat, Shangla, and Chitral. Panic was briefly observed in some areas as people rushed outdoors.
The tremors were also experienced in surrounding regions, indicating a broad impact zone. However, the shaking remained brief, and there were no immediate reports of structural damage.
Seismological details confirmed
According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale.
Officials further confirmed that the quake originated at a depth of 215 kilometers, which typically reduces surface-level damage.
The epicenter was identified in the mountain range of Hindu Kush. Due to the deep origin, the intensity of surface shaking was relatively moderate across affected areas.
Post-quake PDMA report
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a preliminary report on the earthquake that was felt across various parts of the province.
According to the report, earthquake tremors were felt in several districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Multan, and the Potohar region.
It said the earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located in the Hindu Kush region. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 215 kilometers.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, no reports of casualties or property damage have been received from anywhere in Punjab so far.
The PDMA director general stated that the relevant district administrations were immediately mobilized following the earthquake, and assessments of buildings and infrastructure are currently underway to ensure public safety.
