The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has announced that the auction for 5G spectrum will take place on March 10.
PTA Chairman Hafeezur Rehman stated that the public desires improved internet services and that without better connectivity, the vision of a digital Pakistan remains incomplete. He added that the internet issues will be resolved following the 5G auction.
PTA's Director-General (Wireless-Licensing) Amer Shahzad said that 101 countries worldwide have already launched 5G services. He confirmed that Pakistan will hold its 5G spectrum auction, with the government providing 597 megahertz of spectrum for the purpose.
Shehzad added that following the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for spectrum has increased. He said that 97 per cent of the country’s mobile towers are 4G, and connectivity in rural areas is affected by load-shedding. The new spectrum is expected to improve the quality of service.
