Afghanistan defeated United Arab Emirates by five wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.
Chasing 161, Afghanistan reached 162 for five in 19.2 overs to seal victory with four balls to spare.
Azmatullah Omarzai struck an unbeaten 40 from 21 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes, and earlier returned figures of four for 15 in four overs. He was named player of the match.
Ibrahim Zadran laid the foundation with 53 off 41 balls, including six fours and a six. Darwish Rasooli contributed 33 from 23 deliveries.
United Arab Emirates, after being sent in to bat, posted 160 for nine in their allotted 20 overs.
Sohaib Khan top-scored with 68 off 48 balls, striking six fours and four sixes. Alishan Sharafu made 40 from 31 balls.
Azmatullah Omarzai removed four batters, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed two wickets.
Afghanistan, who won the toss and elected to field, achieved the target in 19.2 overs to secure the points in the tournament.
