India’s globally renowned poet, lyricist, and filmmaker Javed Akhtar has expressed satisfaction over the defeat of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the country’s recent elections.
In a post shared on social media, Javed Akhtar described the electoral loss of Jamaat-e-Islami as a positive development. He stated that the defeat of the party—often regarded as a representative of right-wing politics—indicates that a majority in Bangladesh allegedly does not support sectarian attitudes against minority communities.
He further noted that the party’s loss challenges the perception that the people of Bangladesh accept religion-based politics or prejudice against minorities.
Following Javed Akhtar’s statement, mixed reactions emerged on social media. While some users supported his stance, others described it as interference in a political matter.
Several users advised the filmmaker to focus on his professional domain, suggesting that those associated with the film industry should stay away from politics, as it is not their field of expertise.
