A senior official at Microsoft has suggested that artificial intelligence could soon begin replacing white-collar workers.
According to reports, Mustafa Suleyman, who currently serves as CEO of Microsoft’s AI division, said in a recent interview that AI could begin replacing white-collar employees within the next 12 to 18 months.
White-collar roles typically include office staff, accountants, customer service representatives, legal assistants, analysts, and IT support personnel.
Suleyman noted that AI is rapidly developing capabilities that can automate tasks such as report writing, data analysis, drafting emails, coding, and conducting research.
He added that companies are likely to adopt AI tools to reduce operational costs. While the nature of some jobs may evolve, others could disappear entirely.
Suleyman’s remarks serve as both a warning and a prediction. While entire professions may not vanish overnight, the nature of many roles is expected to change significantly in the near future.
