Federal Minister for Climate Change, Dr Musadik Malik, has emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) can play a pivotal role in disaster prediction and timely prevention, while stressing the need for caution and continuous monitoring in its use.
Speaking at the National Artificial Intelligence Workshop in Islamabad, Malik said the greatest strength of AI lies in its ability to forecast and mitigate disasters.
He highlighted that in Pakistan, data is limited and difficult to access. Currently, the country’s vulnerability report identifies 20 districts as the most affected, with 18 in Balochistan and two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The minister further stated that science and AI have become indispensable in environmental policymaking. While AI agents may impact human employment in the future, over-reliance on artificial intelligence could reduce human judgment and decision-making skills.
He concluded by emphasizing that careful use and constant supervision of AI applications are essential.
