A new study has found that the Apple Watch feature designed to detect signs of high blood pressure cannot serve as a substitute for proper medical testing.
Health experts have warned that relying solely on such wearable devices for health-related alerts can be risky, as it may lead to false reassurance among users. They stressed that people should continue to have their blood pressure checked regularly using traditional blood pressure machines with cuffs.
Apple itself also clearly states that its “high blood pressure notification feature” is not intended for diagnosing, treating, or monitoring any medical condition.
According to the company, the feature cannot be used to diagnose or manage conditions such as high blood pressure, blood clots, stroke, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, or cholesterol-related issues.
Experts emphasize that while smartwatches can be useful for general health awareness, they should not replace professional medical evaluation or clinically approved diagnostic tools.
