Apple’s next budget-friendly iPhone could be just days away. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17e is “imminent” and will launch with several long-awaited upgrades while keeping the same price as its predecessor.
In his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said Apple is preparing to unveil the iPhone 17e imminently. The launch is expected to kick off Apple’s broader hardware push for early 2026, which will also include new Mac models.
While Gurman did not confirm a specific date, previous rumours have pointed to February 19. That is the same date Apple launched the iPhone 16e in 2025, placing the expected announcement within the coming days.
According to Gurman, Apple does not plan to raise the price of the iPhone 17e. The device is expected to retail for $599 in the US.
If that pricing holds, the handset would likely launch at £599 in the UK as well, maintaining the same entry price as the first-generation model.
Despite holding the price steady, Apple is reportedly bringing four major upgrades to the second-generation ‘e’ series iPhone. These changes address features that were missing from the iPhone 16e.
One of the most notable upgrades is the addition of MagSafe connectivity. Gurman reports that the iPhone 17e will support Apple’s magnetic accessory ecosystem, a feature absent from the previous model.
Powered by Apple’s latest A19 chip
The iPhone 17e is also expected to feature the A19 processor. This is the same chip Apple uses in the base iPhone 17, which is set to be unveiled later this year.
The upgrade should deliver improved performance and efficiency compared to the iPhone 16e.
New C1X 5G Modem
Gurman says the upcoming device will include Apple’s C1X 5G modem. This modem is already used in Apple’s flagship phones and is designed to improve connectivity and efficiency.
The iPhone 17e is also expected to feature Apple’s N1 chip. This component handles Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Thread connectivity, further aligning the device with Apple’s higher-end models.
The iPhone 16e was widely viewed as a successful release for Apple. It marked the company’s first sub-flagship iPhone since the iPhone 5c.
Reviewers praised its lightweight and refreshed design, strong performance, reliable single-lens camera, and excellent battery life. One reviewer said the phone made her “realise what you actually need for a good smartphone.”
