Renowned Indian musician AR Rahman recently faced criticism from certain so-called secular artists, whose biased perspectives escalated the controversy.
Among the critics was Kangana Ranaut, who targeted Rahman after he reportedly declined to work on a song for her film Emergency.
During a discussion on “Criminalizing Differences of Opinion” at the Kerala Literature Festival, celebrated actor Prakash Raj came forward in support of AR Rahman.
Prakash Raj emphasized that the globally acclaimed musician, who delivered iconic songs like Maa Tujhe Salaam and Jai Ho and won multiple Oscars, has no need for anyone’s approval for his work.
Without naming Kangana Ranaut directly, he remarked that refusing to work on a film should not be equated with being anti-national. He added that some artists claim their films are classics while criticizing others, and presenting differences of opinion as personal enmity or labeling them as betrayal is a regrettable trend.
