French authorities have raided the offices of social media platform X in Paris, conducting a full search as part of an ongoing cybercrime investigation.
According to international news agencies, the operation was carried out with support from France’s cybercrime unit and the European Union law enforcement agency, Europol. The case against X began in January 2025 over alleged misuse of algorithms and data handling concerns.
Investigations have since expanded to include serious offenses such as child sexual abuse, sexually explicit deepfake content, and Holocaust denial, all of which are criminal offenses under French law. Allegations of automated system manipulation and fraud have also been added to the case.
X CEO Elon Musk has been summoned for a voluntary hearing in Paris on April 20, 2026, to provide his position and explain the company’s legal compliance. Former CEO Linda Yaccarino and other staff members have also been issued witness summons for the same date.
According to the French prosecutor’s office, the investigation aims to ensure judicial transparency and X’s compliance with French laws. Officials stressed that the case is being conducted constructively to ensure the social media platform fulfills its legal responsibilities.
