Google has introduced a powerful new artificial intelligence feature to its popular navigation service, Google Maps, further enhancing the way users navigate during travel.
Powered by the Gemini AI model, the feature was first unveiled in November 2025 with the aim of providing drivers with hands-free, voice-based navigation assistance. Initially, it was available only for motorists to help them navigate without taking their hands off the wheel.
Now, Google has expanded the feature’s capabilities. Gemini for Maps has been rolled out for pedestrians and cyclists as well, making the conversational navigation assistant useful for all types of journeys.
In a blog post, Google said the feature is being introduced gradually across the globe. Users in regions where the Gemini AI model is available will be able to access this new functionality within Google Maps.
However, the company clarified that the feature will not be available on the web version of Google Maps. Instead, it will be limited to Android and iOS devices only.
