Sydney Sweeney has spoken out after being labelled “MAGA Barbie” on social media, addressing speculation about her political views.
The actor said she knows where she stands but has no interest in becoming part of a political narrative.
Sydney Sweeney has addressed the criticism and online debate that followed her being branded “MAGA Barbie,” making it clear that politics is not something she wants to lead conversations about.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan during the launch of her lingerie line SYRN, the Anyone But You star was asked directly about the label and the buzz surrounding her supposed political leanings.
Sweeney said she has always focused on her work rather than political discussions.
“I’ve never been here to talk about politics. I’ve always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of,” she told the outlet.
Feeling used in online narratives
The Euphoria star suggested that staying silent on politics has, in some cases, encouraged others to project their own views onto her.
“I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn,” she said, adding that these assumptions are beyond her control.
When asked why she did not publicly correct the assumption, Sweeney explained that responding can sometimes worsen the situation.
“If I say, ‘That’s not true,’ they’ll come at me like, ‘You’re just saying that to look better.’ There’s no winning,” she said.
‘I know who i am’
Sweeney emphasized that she is comfortable with her own values, even if others continue to speculate.
“I just have to continue being who I am, because I know who I am. I can’t make everyone love me. I know what I stand for,” she said.
The Christy Martin star once again stressed that politics is not an area she intends to engage in publicly.
“I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts. I’m not here to speak on politics,” she said, noting it was never part of her career ambitions.
Sweeney added that her focus remains on storytelling and values rooted in compassion.
“I don’t believe in hate in any form. I believe we should all love each other and have respect and understanding for one another,” she said.
The online debate around Sweeney intensified after her American Eagle jeans ad sparked discussion in July 2025. The situation gained further attention in August, when President Donald Trump made remarks about her reported political affiliation.
