Australia leg spinner Adam Zampa said this was his third tour of Pakistan and that he was familiar with local conditions.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he said that the pitch began to slow after the first ten overs. The series would provide strong preparation for the World Cup, he said.
He added that the series offered young players an ideal opportunity to prepare ahead of the World Cup. Zampa observed that pitches in Pakistan were no longer the same as those used during the Champions Trophy.
He said the ball held low and came on slowly on the surface used for the match. Asian countries were geographically close, but pitch conditions varied significantly, he said.
Zampa praised the Lahore crowd for its strong support and said playing here was always a pleasure. He said most Australian players had taken part in demanding cricket over the past six to eight weeks.
He said that spinners would play a vital role in World Cup matches scheduled in Sri Lanka. He added that conditions in India would offer more assistance to batters.
Zampa said his responsibility during the powerplay and afterwards was to contain runs and take wickets, a role he aimed to fulfil effectively.
Meanwhile, Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed said there were certain teams against whom he celebrated wickets in his own style.
He said the pitch appeared slow when Adam Zampa was bowling, adding that Pakistan was fortunate to have quality spin bowlers.
The team combination was selected after assessing pitch conditions, he said. Abrar said work was under way to address collapses that often occurred in the final ten overs.
He said Pakistan’s strength lay in its spinners and the team aimed to secure success through them. He said pitches in Sri Lanka generally offered assistance to spinners.
Abrar said his plan involved bowling at very slow pace or increasing speed when required, and he followed that approach. He said it was decided in advance that Agha Salman would bat at number three.
He has termed Renshaw’s run-out as the turning point of the match.
On the other side, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi thanked Australian High Commissioner Timothy Kane following the conclusion of the match.
The PCB chairman also thanked officials of Cricket Australia for attending the match at Gaddafi Stadium.
