Russian President Vladimir Putin told UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan that Moscow was closely watching the situation in Iran and wished to discuss the matter during talks at the Kremlin.
The remarks were made at the opening of talks on Thursday. The UAE recently hosted peace discussions between Russia and Ukraine.
Earlier the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the possibility of talks between the United States and Iran had not yet been ruled out. He warned that any use of force against Tehran could cause chaos in the region and lead to serious consequences.
Peskov’s comments followed remarks by US President Donald Trump, who urged Iran to enter negotiations on its nuclear programme or face the risk of a possible American military strike.
