TikTok reported ongoing service disruptions in the United States and some regions in North America, citing a power outage at a US data center as the cause.
The issue began early Monday morning, affecting video uploads and the visibility of new content for many users.
TikTok USDS spokesperson said the company has been “working to restore our services following a power outage at a US data center impacting TikTok and other apps we operate.”
Users across the US reported difficulties uploading videos and accessing new content, while some noted that their TikTok algorithm appeared to reset. It remains unclear whether the algorithm issue is directly connected to the outage.
The TikTok USDS joint venture, recently taken over by Oracle and a group of investors with ties to the Trump administration, is responsible for routing US user data through Oracle-owned data centers. These centers are also expected to host a version of TikTok’s algorithm trained on US user activity.
“Since yesterday, we’ve been working to restore our services following a power outage at a US data center impacting TikTok and other apps we operate,” the company stated on X. “We’re working with our data center partner to stabilize our service. We’re sorry for this disruption and hope to resolve it soon.”
The company did not confirm whether the outage occurred at an Oracle-managed facility or whether it was related to the massive snowstorm that hit large parts of the US over the weekend.
The disruption comes at a critical time as TikTok USDS begins its operations under new management, raising concerns about service reliability, censorship, and user privacy.
