Samsung appears to be highly confident about its upcoming book-style foldable smartphone, currently dubbed the Galaxy Wide Fold.
Last month, Korean media revealed that Samsung is developing a foldable Galaxy smartphone with a significantly wider display than the screens seen on current Galaxy Z Fold series devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The wider form factor is expected to deliver a noticeably improved experience for video consumption and web browsing.
The device, informally referred to as the Galaxy Wide Fold, is reportedly being positioned to compete directly with Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is also rumored to feature a wider foldable screen.
Now, a new report from ET News suggests that Samsung is preparing to manufacture one million units of the Galaxy Wide Fold. If accurate, this would mark the largest production run ever for a special-edition Galaxy Z series device, a category under which the Wide Fold is currently being classified.
For comparison, Samsung previously shipped around 500,000 units of the Galaxy Z Fold SE and only 30,000 units of the Galaxy Z TriFold worldwide. The significantly higher production target for the Galaxy Wide Fold indicates strong internal confidence in the device’s commercial potential.
Samsung is expected to officially unveil the Galaxy Wide Fold alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in July this year, further expanding its foldable smartphone lineup as competition in the segment intensifies.
