These leaders previously had dedicated police personnel and mobile units for protection. The withdrawal has raised alarms within the party regarding the safety of its prominent members.

MQM leaders say no official reason was provided for the security removal. Party insiders suggest it may be linked to MQM’s strong criticism of the Sindh government following the Gul Plaza tragedy.

The party has emphasized that they will continue to raise questions about the incident, signaling ongoing political tension.

Party response

MQM spokesperson Mushtaq Ayaz clarified that security is still being provided by the federal government to ministers Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal.

He added that Farooq Sattar, Anis Qaimkhani, and other leaders have nominal security, which is occasionally granted or withdrawn by Sindh Police.

Ayaz also stated that no press conference is scheduled at 4 pm; instead, an internal MQM meeting will take place, unrelated to media coverage.

Security withdrawal is intimidation tactic: Mustafa Kamal

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has strongly criticized the Sindh government over the withdrawal of security for MQM leaders, calling it an attempt to intimidate and silence political voices questioning governance and oppression.

Speaking to the media, Mustafa Kamal said the Sindh government’s decision to withdraw security was meant to create fear among MQM leaders. He stressed that such tactics would not silence them.

“If they have any other tactic, let them use it,” Kamal said, adding that MQM would continue raising its voice against injustice and oppression without fear.

Allegations of double standards

The federal minister accused the Sindh government of applying different standards when it comes to security. He claimed that individuals chanting slogans like “Sindh Desh” are provided full security, while MQM leaders are targeted for merely asking questions.

“This selective approach exposes the real intentions of the Sindh government,” Mustafa Kamal stated.

Highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation, Mustafa Kamal said the federation should take Karachi under its control. He argued that the city’s security and governance could no longer be left to a provincial government that, according to him, uses security as a political weapon.

He maintained that Karachi’s stability is crucial for the country and should be handled at the federal level.
