The Petroleum Division has issued a strict deadline for petrol pumps to install Automatic Tank Gauging (ATG) systems, aiming to fully digitalize the oil supply chain and enhance government revenue.
Petrol pumps failing to comply will face restrictions on licenses and No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
The Petroleum Division has directed all oil marketing companies to ensure installation of ATG systems on storage tanks at petrol pumps by February 10, 2026.
The move is part of the government’s plan for end-to-end digitalization of the oil supply chain, enabling accurate tracking of fuel from storage tanks to pump nozzles.
Consequences for non-compliance
According to the official letter, petrol pumps that fail to install the ATG system by the deadline will face serious restrictions:
-
No New Licenses: The Department of Explosives will not issue any new license for non-compliant pumps.
-
NOC Denial: NOC forms from the Department of Explosives will not be provided to petrol pumps lacking the system.
This measure ensures that only legally compliant petrol pumps remain operational, while improving transparency and curbing fuel losses.
Benefits of ATG system implementation
The Petroleum Division emphasized that ATG systems will:
-
Digitize Fuel Sales: Monitor fuel flow from storage tanks to pumps.
-
Increase Legal Sales: Reduce unaccounted fuel and theft.
-
Boost Government Revenue: Accurate tracking ensures proper taxation and reporting.
-
Modernize Oil Infrastructure: Encourage adoption of digital monitoring tools in the fuel sector.
