A severe snowstorm has swept across the United States, impacting 21 states and causing significant difficulties for residents.
According to US media reports, around 670,000 people are without electricity in various states due to the storm.
The winter weather has also disrupted air travel, leading to the cancellation of 16,000 flights and delays for an additional 10,000 flights.
Thick snow has hit Arkansas as more than 200 million people across the US begin to feel the impact of a widespread winter storm.
At least 18 states have issued a state of emergency, and nine states have activated their National Guards.
"A significant, long-duration winter storm will bring widespread heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Southern Rockies to New England through Monday," the National Weather Service says.
Widespread travel disruptions, prolonged power outages, and vast tree damage is likely, the NWS says in its latest forecast.
Frigid temperatures, gusty winds, and "dangerous wind chills" are also expected, according to the weather service.
Emergency declarations have been issued in Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, and Tennessee. Other states, including North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Indiana, have also declared emergencies as authorities work to manage the storm’s effects.
