If your Gmail inbox looks unusually messy today, you’re not imagining things. Users around the world are reporting problems with Gmail’s spam filters and email classification. Google has acknowledged the issue and says teams are working to fix it.
Google’s official Workspace Status Dashboard shows the problem began around 5am Pacific Time on Saturday. Since then, users have experienced email misclassification and unexpected spam warnings.
According to the dashboard, normal inbox sorting has been disrupted, affecting how emails are labeled and filtered.
Many users say their Primary inbox is being flooded with emails that usually land in Promotions, Social, or Updates tabs. At the same time, emails from trusted and known senders are being flagged with spam warnings.
For some, the issue has made it difficult to distinguish important messages from non-essential ones.
Social media users voice frustration
The issue has sparked complaints across social media platforms. Several users claim that “all the spam is going directly to my inbox,” while others say Gmail’s filters seem “suddenly completely busted.”
These reports suggest the issue is widespread rather than limited to individual accounts.
Google has confirmed the disruption and said it is actively working on a fix.
“We are actively working to resolve the issue,” the company said in a statement.
Google also advised users to remain cautious and follow standard safety practices when interacting with messages from unknown senders.
TechCrunch has contacted Google for additional details on the cause and expected resolution of the problem. No timeline has yet been shared for when normal Gmail functionality will be fully restored.
