The release of India’s anti-Pakistan propaganda film Border 2 was halted at the last moment, leading to the cancellation of early morning shows across India.
According to Indian media reports, the sequel to Bollywood actor Sunny Deol’s iconic film Border was scheduled to hit cinema screens nationwide this morning amid great excitement from fans. However, many moviegoers were left waiting outside closed cinemas as the film failed to release on time.
Reports state that technical issues during the release process disrupted the initial screenings of Border 2, resulting in delays and widespread cancellations.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 features Sunny Deol alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in leading roles. The film once again revisits the backdrop of the 1971 Pakistan-India war. Actors Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Sudesh Berry are also set to appear in brief roles through digital de-aging technology.
Although Border 2 was scheduled for release today across India, last-minute technical problems forced the cancellation of all shows nationwide. Exhibitors in various cities confirmed that screenings planned for 7:30am and 8:00am could not proceed as scheduled.
Trade reports revealed that the film’s final version was not ready until late Thursday night. UFO Moviez, the company responsible for content distribution, informed theaters that the film material would be delivered much later than expected.
In a message sent to cinema owners, it was stated that the download process would begin at 6:30 a.m. Given the film’s runtime of 192 minutes, preparations for screening could take up to four hours, making it impossible to run the early morning shows as planned.
