If your Fire TV has started lagging, freezing, or buffering endlessly, you’re not alone. Many users experience slow performance over time, but experts say a quick fix—clearing app cache—can restore speed in under a minute.
Fire TV devices, including Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Fire OS-powered smart TVs, store temporary files to help apps load faster. Over time, this cache data builds up.
When too much cache accumulates, it can cause sluggish menus, app crashes, and constant buffering, turning a relaxing streaming session into a frustrating experience.
The fastest fix: Clear App cache
According to tech experts, clearing app cache is the most effective and quickest way to improve Fire TV performance. Cache files are meant to be temporary, but when they pile up, they actually slow the system down.
The good news is that clearing cache does not delete apps or log you out.
How to clear cache on Fire TV
Step 1: Open Settings
From the Fire TV home screen, use your remote to select the Settings icon, shown as a gear.
Step 2: Go to Applications
Inside Settings, scroll and select Applications to access app-related controls.
Step 3: Open Manage Installed Applications
Select Manage Installed Applications to view all apps installed on your Fire TV. This list shows which apps are most likely causing performance issues.
Streaming apps like Netflix and YouTube often store the most cache due to frequent use.
Step 4: Select an App
Choose the app that feels slow or crashes often. You’ll see options such as Launch Application, Force Stop, Clear Cache, and Clear Data.
Each app also shows how much cache space it is using.
Step 5: Clear Cache (Optional: Clear Data)
Select Clear Cache and confirm. The process takes just a second and usually restores smooth performance.
If problems persist, you can choose Clear Data, but this resets the app and requires signing in again.
Clear all app caches at once
If you want to clean everything in one go, return to:
Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Clear all application caches
Confirm the action, then press the Home button to return to streaming.
