United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday ruled out the use of force to acquire Greenland, an autonomous territory of Kingdom of Denmark which the US president considers vital for his country’s security.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, the US President referred to Greenland as ‘a piece of ice’ and asserted that the United States should have full ownership and legal rights to the island to ensure its defense. He explained that defense cannot be guaranteed on leased or licensed territory and urged that Greenland’s full control would strengthen NATO security rather than threaten it.
US president cherishes ‘win’ in Venezuela
Trump emphasized that when the US thrives, the world prospers. He dedicated a considerable portion of his opening remarks to Venezuela, predicting that the country will perform exceptionally under US oversight after the removal of Nicolás Maduro.
Trump claimed that in the next six months, Venezuela would earn more revenue than it had in the past 20 years. While noting that every major oil company is now cooperating with the US, he did not provide further details. He also praised the interim administration led by Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez, stating that it is cooperating effectively with US officials.
The US president added that once American intervention concluded, Venezuela’s vice president approached the US for agreements, a move he suggested other nations should emulate.
