Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal may join Ranveer Singh in the sequel to the controversial Bollywood film Dhurandhar, which has been widely criticized as a propaganda-driven project.
According to Indian media, Vicky Kaushal is expected to reprise his role as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill, a character he previously portrayed in director Aditya Dhar’s 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike. The sequel to Dhurandhar is reportedly being directed by Aditya Dhar and is slated for release early next year.
Following the strong box-office performance of Dhurandhar, the filmmakers decided to expand the project into a sequel, which has already generated significant buzz among fans. Reports indicate that Vicky Kaushal will be part of the ensemble cast, which also includes R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal.
Speaking to Mid-Day, a source close to the production said the director has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the inclusion of major stars in the film. According to insiders, Aditya Dhar plans to develop Dhurandhar as a cinematic universe similar to other franchise-driven projects, and has decided to link its storyline with Uri despite the films being set across different timelines.
Vicky Kaushal, who played the lead role in Uri - a film often described as anti-Pakistan propaganda - is expected to appear once again as Major Vihaan Shergill in the Dhurandhar sequel. However, it remains unclear whether his character will directly intersect with Ranveer Singh’s role in the film.
Reports further reveal that Kaushal completed filming his portions last year, even before the theatrical release of Dhurandhar.
Meanwhile, audiences will only see brief flashback appearances of Akshaye Khanna’s character in the sequel, with his scenes already filmed and limited to short segments.
It is worth noting that Dhurandhar, released in December, continues to attract audiences in cinemas. The sequel is scheduled for release on March 19, 2026, while the filmmakers are expected to unveil the official trailer in February.
