Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President JD Vance have announced they are expecting their fourth child, a baby boy, this summer.
The couple shared the news on social media on January 20, highlighting their excitement as they prepare to welcome the newest member of their family.
In a joint statement, JD and Usha Vance said, “We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July.”
The couple already has three children—Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel—who have often accompanied them on domestic and international trips.
Usha Vance will become the first sitting second lady to give birth while in office. While unprecedented for a second lady, there is historical precedent among first ladies.

First Lady Frances Cleveland, wife of President Grover Cleveland, gave birth to her daughter Esther inside the White House in 1893.

Jacqueline Kennedy welcomed her third child, Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, in 1963, who was born prematurely and tragically died two days later.
The Vances’ announcement underscores a moment of personal joy amid their official responsibilities.
Gratitude and ublic life
In their statement, the couple described the pregnancy as “exciting and hectic” and expressed gratitude to the military doctors and medical staff assisting them.
Usha Vance had stepped away from her career as a high-profile public lawyer when JD Vance assumed the vice presidency, appearing frequently alongside him during his first year in office.
The Vances are scheduled to lead the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, next month, highlighting the balance of public duties and private family life.
