A CBS News survey revealed that 86 per cent of Americans oppose a United States takeover of Greenland.
According to details surfaced on Sunday, CBS News has released the results of its survey related to Greenland, which show strong public resistance to any such move.
The survey found that 30 per cent of Republican voters support the use of military force to seize Greenland. However, 70 per cent of Republican voters oppose a US takeover of Greenland, the CBS News survey said.
Separately, the Netherlands’ foreign minister said on Sunday that United States President Donald Trump’s threat to impose new tariffs on European allies unless they agree to sell Greenland to the United States amounts to “blackmail”.
“It is blackmail what he is doing, and it is unnecessary. It does not help the alliance, Nato, and it does not help Greenland either,” David van Weel said in an interview on Dutch television.
In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Mr Trump said an additional 10 per cent import tariff would come into force on 1 February on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and Great Britain. These countries have agreed to contribute personnel to a Nato exercise in Greenland.
