Jaecoo has launched its most affordable hybrid SUV in Pakistan, the J5, aiming to bridge the price gap between sedans and SUVs.
Backed by the Nishat Group, the J5 promises a premium interior, strong fuel efficiency, and advanced safety features at an accessible price point.
The Jaecoo J5 is a self-charging hybrid (HEV) powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 1.83 kWh battery. Jaecoo calls this combination its Super Hybrid System (SHS), developed by parent company Chery.
It is available in two variants:
-
Comfort (Base Variant)
-
Premium (Top Variant) – reviewed here
On paper, the J5 offers strong value for money in Pakistan’s growing SUV segment, particularly after currency depreciation widened the price gap between sedans and SUVs.
Exterior design: Range Rover inspiration
The Jaecoo J5 strongly resembles the Range Rover Evoque, especially at the front.
Key Exterior Highlights:
-
Waterfall-style front grille
-
Full LED headlights (Premium variant)
-
18-inch alloy wheels and roof rails
-
Concealed door handles
-
LED tail lamps and modern bumper design
-
SHS badging
Its bold grille and upright styling give the J5 a road presence that belies its pricing.
The J5 offers reasonable boot space for its class, though it lacks a spare wheel, providing a tire repair kit instead. A powered tailgate (Premium variant) and 60:40 split rear seats enhance practicality, while storage under the boot floor adds flexibility.
Interior design & cabin quality
The cabin combines a dual-tone light and dark grey design with soft-touch materials and carbon-fibre-style trim. Ambient lighting offers 36 colour options, while the premium console draws inspiration from modern Range Rover interiors. The open, airy cabin feels larger than expected for a B-segment SUV.
Infotainment & digital features
Technology takes center stage with a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system controlling driving modes, hybrid energy usage, and multiple vehicle settings.
Other highlights include:
-
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
-
Hybrid energy flow display
-
8-inch TFT digital instrument cluster
Safety & ADAS Features
The J5’s ADAS suite is impressive for its segment:
-
6 airbags
-
540-degree camera system with transparent chassis view
-
Front collision warning and emergency braking
-
Adaptive cruise control
-
Lane departure warning and prevention
-
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
-
Door opening warning and driver fatigue monitoring
Customizable sensitivity levels enhance usability.
Seating comfort & space
Front seats offer excellent support, ventilation, and 6-way power adjustment for the driver. Rear passengers enjoy good headroom, knee space, dedicated AC vents, USB ports, and a flat floor for middle-seat comfort. The fixed glass roof adds to the open feel.
Performance & fuel economy
The J5 produces 221 hp and 295 Nm of torque with a DHT transmission. While not a performance SUV, it feels responsive on the road. Claimed fuel economy is around 18 km/l, giving a potential range of up to 950 km on a 51-liter tank. Real-world testing will confirm these numbers.
Market positioning and pricing
The J5 is positioned as Pakistan’s most affordable hybrid SUV:
-
Comfort Variant: Rs. 6,699,000
-
Premium Variant: Rs. 7,699,000
Introductory pricing is valid until March 10, 2026. Financing is available via MCB Car4U (up to 3 years) and Fleet4U (up to 7 years), with monthly installments starting at Rs. 106,542 depending on loan terms.
Final Verdict: Is the Jaecoo J5 worth it?
The Jaecoo J5 offers a compelling mix of SUV styling, hybrid efficiency, premium interiors, and advanced safety at an accessible price. Supported by the Nishat Group, it is a strong choice for sedan owners looking to upgrade without compromising fuel economy or comfort.
While a full expert review is needed for real-world performance validation, the J5’s first look positions it as a standout option in Pakistan’s sub-compact SUV segment.
