Hollywood star Zoe Saldaña has made history by becoming the world’s highest-grossing actress, setting a new milestone in global box office records.
According to a report by a British newspaper, the 47-year-old Oscar-winning actress has overtaken Scarlett Johansson to claim the top position on the all-time list.
Following the success of her latest film Avatar: Fire and Ash, the combined worldwide earnings of Saldaña’s films have now surpassed 15.46 billion dollars.
Industry figures show that the Avatar franchise has played a major role in her remarkable achievement. Her portrayal of Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe also brought her massive global recognition.
In addition to Avatar, Saldaña has appeared in blockbuster franchises including Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, the Star Trek series, and the first Pirates of the Caribbean film.
Last year, Scarlett Johansson had secured the top spot thanks to the success of Jurassic World: Rebirth, but that title has now passed to Zoe Saldaña.
Although Avatar: Fire and Ash has performed more slowly at the box office compared to previous installments, it has maintained the number one position in the domestic market since its release.
Zoe Saldaña also won an Academy Award last year for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Netflix film Emilia Pérez.
She is currently working on the upcoming season of the action-drama series Lioness.
