The United States has issued an urgent warning to its citizens in Iran, urging them to leave the country immediately as nationwide protests intensify and security risks mount, while also blocking access to an Iranian news outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards.
The US virtual embassy in Iran released a security alert advising all American citizens to “leave Iran now,” warning that protests across the country are escalating and could turn violent. The advisory stressed that Americans should not rely on US government assistance for evacuation and must make independent exit plans.
Advice to flee by land or shelter in place
The alert specifically urged US nationals to consider leaving Iran by land through Armenia or Turkiye if possible. For those unable to flee, the embassy recommended finding a secure location inside a safe building and maintaining sufficient supplies of food, water, medications and other essential items.

Citizens were also advised to keep mobile phones charged and stay prepared to adjust escape plans quickly as conditions change.
Warning of arrest, detention
The embassy cautioned that US nationals face a “significant risk of questioning, arrest, and detention” in Iran. It warned that merely showing a US passport or demonstrating connections to the United States could be enough for Iranian authorities to detain someone.

Americans were further advised to avoid demonstrations, maintain a low profile, stay alert to their surroundings and limit unnecessary movement.
US blocks Tasnim News Agency
In a parallel move, the United States blocked the online domain of Tasnim News Agency, an outlet linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The development was reported by fellow IRGC-affiliated outlet Fars News Agency.
Attempts to access Tasnim’s website from outside Iran lead to an error page stating that “there has been a critical error on this website,” according to The Jerusalem Post.

The outlet added that Tasnim’s website remains accessible within Iran through its local Iranian domain.
Rising tensions amid wider Iran unrest
The developments come as Iran faces sustained anti-government protests, internet restrictions and heightened tensions with Washington. US officials have repeatedly cited security concerns for foreign nationals as demonstrations continue and communications remain disrupted.
The latest advisory underscores Washington’s assessment that conditions on the ground pose a growing danger to Americans, even as diplomatic and regional tensions between the two countries deepen.
