Renowned Pakistani actress and singer Shahida Mini, known for her performances in films such as Teefa Gujjar, Naseeb, and Anjuman, as well as dramas including Manjhdaar and Dehleez, recently shared her views on the evolving portrayal of femininity in the entertainment industry.
The former Melody Queen, who began her career as a child singer on PTV, spoke during an appearance on the show Zabardast, hosted by Wasi Shah.
Shahida Mini expressed that while contemporary actresses are undeniably beautiful and talented, she feels that many lack the traditional feminine charm and expressiveness that characterized performers of earlier generations.
“I won’t say that actresses today are not beautiful, but they seem to have lost the delicacy and charm traditionally associated with women,” she said. “They may have perfect features - beautiful eyes, good height, flawless lips - but without expressions, it’s like a doll with all the beauty but no life. Many current actresses also appear expressionless and often dress in ways that resemble men rather than reflecting the character they are portraying.”
She added that performers in the past tailored their appearance to suit their roles, emphasizing authenticity and character-driven presentation. Shahida Mini praised Mahira Khan for her performances and noted that other actors are also doing well, but stressed the importance of preserving the nuanced femininity that was once a hallmark of the industry.
Now enjoying life with her family, including her daughter who is married to actor Fahad Sheikh, Shahida Mini continues to remain a respected voice in Pakistan’s entertainment landscape.
