United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that no further action will be taken against Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro, according to a Republican senator.
Senator Mike Lee confirmed the arrest of Venezuelan President Maduro, who will face criminal charges in the US, following a phone call with Rubio.
“He [Rubio] anticipates that no further action will take place in Venezuela now that Maduro is in US custody,” Senator Lee said.
Lee added that the US strikes were “deployed to protect and defend those executing the arrest warrant.”
Earlier, Lee had written on X: “I am excited to see whether, if at all, this action can be justified constitutionally without a declaration of war or authorisation to use military force.”
