The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued fresh, countrywide guidelines urging citizens to use SIMs and telecom connections responsibly to protect the national communication system.
The PTA clarified that all telecom users must use only those SIMs that are registered in their own name. Using a SIM registered in the name of another person will be considered a clear violation of telecom regulations.
The authority stressed that this rule applies uniformly to all mobile and telecommunication connections across Pakistan.
Registered user fully responsible for misuse
According to the guidelines, the complete responsibility for any incorrect, illegal, or unauthorized use of a SIM or telecommunication connection will rest with the registered user. This includes accountability for all calls, messages, and data usage made through the SIM or device.
PTA emphasized that users cannot shift responsibility to another individual if their registered SIM is misused.
Legal, administrative action warned
The telecom regulator warned that necessary legal and administrative action may be taken against users found violating the rules. Failure to comply with relevant regulations could result in penalties under existing telecom laws.
Users have therefore been advised to strictly follow all applicable rules and regulations.
Appealing to citizens, the PTA urged telecom users to act responsibly and play an effective role in ensuring the protection, stability, and security of Pakistan’s communication infrastructure.
The authority reiterated that responsible behaviour by users is essential to safeguard the national telecom system from misuse.
