Bollywood may have stepped into Karachi with the film ‘Dhurandhar’, but a blunder has stirred up social media - Ranveer Singh’s oddly inaccurate Pakistani look.
The filmmakers attempted to depict Pakistan, particularly Karachi’s Lyari gang-war backdrop, but went visibly off-track when it came to costume choices.
One social media user called out the film’s costume designer, saying, “Someone please tell their designer that no one in Pakistan wears a half-sleeve shalwar kameez!”
Another user quipped, “Half sleeves, shalwar kameez and double pockets… no wonder their spies get caught!”
A different user mocked the tight amulet worn by Ranveer’s character: “If a spy enters Pakistan wearing such a tight taweez, Pakistanis will instantly know he’s from India!”
Someone else added, “These extremely tight taweez they wear… just watching them makes it hard for me to breathe. The taweez is for protection, not self-torture!”
While Pakistanis often object to being portrayed negatively in Bollywood films, the truth is that what catches their eye first is the wrong clothing, wrong language, and wrong cultural cues - and ‘Dhurandhar’is no exception.
