Former Pakistani international cricket umpire Khizar Hayat has passed away at the age of 86 after a period of illness.
Khizar Hayat began his cricket journey playing first-class cricket for Pakistan Railways before turning to umpiring in the 1970s. Over the decades, he became a respected figure in international cricket, officiating in 34 Test matches and 57 One-Day Internationals.
He also stood in three Cricket World Cup matches, earning a reputation for fairness and precision in his decisions. His contributions extended beyond the field, as he remained associated with the Pakistan Cricket Board after retiring from active umpiring.
PCB pays tribute
The Pakistan Cricket Board expressed condolences following Khizar Hayat’s death. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised the late umpire’s dedication and professionalism.
“Khizar Hayat’s decisions were widely respected around the world,” Naqvi said. “Cricket umpiring will always be grateful for his services, and his legacy will be remembered for a long time.”
